Exams week at school, my PC got a virus that controls the mouse (and I haven't found how to stop it). Not a lucky week.

This week started as bad as were the next days. I was supposed to attend the Marlboro MxBeat at Puebla (a city an hour far from Mexico City). In this fest I was supposed to see Dj Medhi and other artists, but I was attending mainly because of CSS, Cansei de Ser Sexy, or whatever. They're a brazilian band signed the previous year by Subpop Records; I heard them the previous year and immediatly fell in love with them. They have a great humour shown in songs such as Meeting Paris Holton, Patins or Let's Make Love and Listen To Death From Above. I love this band, I think they're, among with Klaxons, my favorite 2006's musical discovery.

So, why didn't them played at MxBeat?

According to their official site:

We are not going to Mexico due to Visa Problems. We were supposed to play tomorrow night at the MX Beat but our visas won’t be ready on time. And yesterday I spoke with other bands that said that Mexico is the best audience in the world. We were really looking forward to go there.
I promisse we will make up to this really soon.We know we have a lot of fans in Mexico since the beginning of CSS.Actualy, I think the first international responce we had was from Mexico.
Please don’t think it was our fault.
Lots and Lots of Love.
CSS
March 2, 2007 By Ira

Ok, I believe it was not their fault. But... what would you do if you bought tickets for a gig outside your hometown? and a day before the gig, browsing in the band's site, you shock because they're not attending?

Anyway, CSS keeps being one of my 10 favorite bands. I hope seeing them someday... even outside Mexico... but I'm not attending Coachella next spring.

Fuck Off!!

Something I've Never Done...

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5036710531367896082" style="DISPLAY: block; I'll start with a very important band for the mexican indie scene: Los Dynamite.

Los Dynamite started playing together in 2003, after other projects broke up. Diego Solorzano, the band's singer, stopped performing as DJ to play in the band with his old schoolates.

They started playing at small bars and pubs, and started gaining critical success. They sing in english -their only song in spanish is called No Me Sueltes- and this fact helped them to develop in the correct way: their music is influenced by New Order, Interpol and Joy Division.

The 1st single was called T.V., and, after that, everything meant success. They started opening many important gigs in Mexico City: The Strokes, Elephant, Dirty Pretty Things, Interpol, Stellastarr, Bloc Party, etcetera.

Months before the release of their album, the 2nd single was released, it was called Katatonic. Then, the album went out for sales, being charted in number 1 for 3 weeks. The album, titled Greatest Hits (because their first 2 singles were absolutely succesful), is considered one of the best albums in the indie rock's mexican history. The next 2 singles of the band were Ready, Ready and Pleasure.

So, highly reccomended if you want to hear some of the best indie mexican rock. Sometimes funny, sometimes catchy, very similar to She Wants Revenge, Editors and all that bands influenced by Interpol, and, mainly, by Joy Division.

Los Dynamite - Katatonic
Los Dynamite - Pleasure

Los Dynamite myspace
Los Dynamite official

untitled 1

this blog's about the indie trend, which has got, by now, an amazing number of followers. some posts will be about the mainstream indie bands -of montreal, cyhsy, the vines, sufjan stevens...-, but this is going to be a new space for emergin indie artists. it is important to buy albums, attend to gigs and buu the band's t-shirts to contribute to the music.

so... as you may see this site is still under construction... but you'll find it preety good some days later.
